County-level solar ordinances are an important framework to help voters and developers alike understand expectations about solar projects. Large-scale solar projects can consumer literally thousands of acres of farmland and forest. That makes it critical to craft ordinances that will protect the natural environment, historical resources, and quality of life for all residents.
This chart outlines the provisions of ordinances in counties across Virginia. It is a work in progress. Our goal is to gradually add more counties to this list as their boards of supervisors and planning commissions finalize the guidelines for massive solar projects.
